About Bodington

How Bodington might be used

A typical use of the Bodington software would be by a college or University as a virtual learning environment (VLE). Using Bodington, lecturers (and others supporting teaching), can create tools such as multiple choice question tests (MCQs), questionnaires and logbooks, or use a web document resource to upload web pages they have created on their own computers.

However, Bodington is different from most VLEs in that it does not enforce a rigid design for the structure of individual course areas. Bodington uses the metaphor of a plot of land with buildings on it and within each building there can be floors, suites of rooms and rooms. The tools that can be created have functional descriptions (messaging room, web document, questionnaire). This means many different designs can be implemented in one web site. The flexibility of the system enables the user to have complete control over how the different levels of the overall structure are used.

Bodington doesn't even have to be used as a VLE, it could be used as the basis for other kinds of interactive site. As an example, click on the following link and log-in as a visitor and read the article Building a Virtual Research Environment with Bodington

Bodington is designed to allow people with little or no HTML skills to get material on the web easily and quickly. The author of resources decides who has access to those resources - this could be anyone in the world with an internet connection, a small group of people defined by the author, or in a typical Bodington VLE in a higher education institution course registration data in the student information system would be used to automatically build groups that the author could grant permissions to.
