Bodington integrated with Enterprise Web Services Toolkit - BEWT

In response to the ever increasing complexity of integrated learning and teaching systems, there is an equally increasing demand for institutions to be able to manage person and group identity, sharing this information between appropriate components, in an open and sustainable fashion in order to improve organizational process and in order to improve the student experience.

The BEWT project intends to benefit from the work of the contributors of the CETIS IMS Enterprise Webservices Toolkit1 [CETIS-ES] by integrating the toolkit into the UHI institutional VLE, Bodington2, which is an important VLE used by many UK HE and FE institutions for teaching and learning. UHI also manages student and staff information through its institutional MIS, SITS:Vision3, which interacts with other UHI elearning service components through a system called Siva4 which allows MIS information to drive account management in the related systems, including the VLE Bodington. Through integration of CETIS-ES into Bodington and into Siva, these systems will be better able to manage Enterprise type data in everyday activities and transactions.

In addition to utilizing the CETIS-ES toolkit while extending these two core components of elearning at UHI, BEWT will help to standardize Bodington to conform to using IMS ES which would be valuable to other groups hoping to tie Bodington into other IMS ES compatible systems. Also, BEWT will provide important evaluative feedback, generated through real use of the toolkit, back to the developers and to the wider community considering use of CETISES. There would also be awareness raising in the VLE community of the benefits of IMS ES by exposing current and potential Bodington users to the schema and a demonstration implementation.
